    GCL Class of 2017 Graduation

    The Latin American Board would like to congratulate the GCL Class of 2017 in their graduation. This year’s GCL cohort was composed of 36 leaders from 17 countries around Latin America.

    2017 GCL Participant Wins Second Place in Social Impact Pitch Competition

    On February 2017, Sebastian Garcia, 2017 GCL Program participant, won second place and people’s choice award prize of $2500 in Georgetown’s Social Impact Pitch Competition sponsored by Startup Hoyas. Sebastian’s social impact pitch was for his startup Ubiqua, an online platform that allows foreign worker’s money transfers to be allocated towards goods and services of their choice back in their country.

    10th Anniversary of the GCL Program and Alumni Reunion

    From October 27 to 29, the Latin American Board (LAB) celebrated the 10th Anniversary of its Global Competitiveness Leadership Program (GCL) and Alumni Reunion on campus. The celebrations were accompanied by three full days of activities for more than 100 GCL Alumni who attended the event.

    GCL Program Alumna Launches Democratic Online Platform

    Pía Greene (GCL’07) is the co-founder and director of Dcolumnist.com. Launched on July, 2016, this platform aims to become a space where individuals can express their views, ideas and opinions, on whatever topic of interest, without any restrictions or limitations (except for minimum standards already specified on the website).

    GCL Alum’s Company Recognized in Global Startup Competition

    Miguel Torres (GCL’10) company Shippify, was selected as one of the finalists of the 2016 Challenge Cup by DC’s 1776 Startup Incubator. The 1776 Challenge Cup is a tournament for the most promising, world-changing startups to win cash prizes, make international connections and share their vision on a global stage.

    GCL Program Alum elected Congressman in Peru

    Alberto de Belaunde (GCL’15) was elected Congressman in Peru following very contested general elections. He forms part of the Peruvians for Change political party (Peruanos Por el Kambio, PPK) led by Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, President of Peru. An important part of Alberto’s legislative agenda is the advancement of human rights, particularly women’s rights.

    GCL Program Alum receives High Impact Entrepreneur Award

    Manuel Laredo (GCL’16) received the High Impact Entrepreneur Award for his company Mamut in the XI Edition of the Talent and Innovation Competition of the Americas (TIC Americas) in the framework of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States.

    GCL Alumni Advance Gender Equality in Latin America

    Maria Adelaida Perdomo and Andrea de la Pierda (GCL’14) founded Aequales upon graduating from the GCL Program. Aequales is a organization that promotes women’s empowerment in the corporate world and works to reduce gender gaps and generate benefits to businesses in Latin America.

    GCL Alumnus Appointed Sub-secretary of Cultural Cooperation

    Kyore Antonio Beun (GCL’15) was recently appointed by the President of Argentina as Sub-secretary of Cultural Cooperation in the Secretary of Federal Integration and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Culture.
